Electrical Engineering Circuit Design

Key Experiences

In space.100 students were challenged with designing a heating method for the Astro Lounge. Students are now challenged to understand, design and rebuild the PCBs used to run those experiments. This course prepares students for the rigors of space.300.

Key Outcomes

Space.200 is a hands-on experience for student’s 7th to 12th grade, it builds on the space.100 experience and prepares them for the aspiration of the space.300 by taking them deeper into the tools necessary for space research. Students are exposed to electrical, mechanical and software engineering in order to run an automated experiment on the ISS. The program uses a 30-hour, UC Credit Approved curriculum with lesson plans for teachers/mentors to guide the students through the entire learning process.
Ask
What is a circuit? How is the flow of electricity controlled? Does a circuit need software?
Think
Can I combine the functions of circuits with software? How would I test circuits one at a time? Can a Breadboard Circuit accurately replicate on a PCB?
Imagine
Circuits are made from physical connections and can be controlled with software. The order of circuit execution is not random. I can create a PCB.
